The Water in Progress internship program is intended to create a mutually beneficial learning opportunity in the environmental industry for small communities and high school students within the state of Iowa. This program will enhance the state of Iowa’s ability to grow and retain water and wastewater operators while expanding the availability of learning to locations and people that currently are unable to access or support such a program.

Here are the specifics of what our internship is based on, but we are always willing to be flexible for what works for the city, sponsoring utility or student:
  • Designed for communities with a population of 5,000 or fewer

  • Targeted towards high school students from the summer after their sophomore year to the summer after their senior year (ages 16-19)

  • Estimated 12 week internship

  • Up to 20 hours per week

  • Up to $5,000 in reimbursed costs for funding the internship
